What is dye transfer and How to care for dark wash denimUpdated an hour ago

What is Dye Transfer?

Dye Transfer (or color bleeding) is a natural occurrence with indigo-dyed denim, especially when new. Due to its nature, color transfer may occur when rubbed against light colored-surfaces. A disclaimer will be included on the joker of applicable products for added awareness.

Items Most at Risk for Dye Transfer:

  • Light-colored or white clothing
  • Light colored bags
  • Light-colored sneakers and shoes
  • Light upholstery (couches and car seats)

How to Prevent Dye Transfer:

  • Wash your denim before the first wear.
    • Please note: Multiple washes may be required for the dye to fully set.
  • Wash the denim separately in cold water. Let air dry to minimize shrinkage
    • Use gentle detergent made for dark fabrics and avoid fabric softener
  • Avoid contact with light-colored items during the first several wears
  • Air dry to minimize shrinkage and reduce excess dye.

If Dye Transfer Occurs:

If staining occurs, we recommend addressing it promptly:

  • Clothing: Launder the item immediately before the dye sets.
  • Shoes/Bags: Use a gentle cleaner suitable for the specific material (e.g., leather, canvas).
  • Furniture/Upholstery: Spot clean with mild soap and water, or refer to the manufacture’s care guidelines

Our Policy on Dye Transfer:

Dye transfer is a natural characteristic of indigo-dyed and dark denim. We advise following the care instructions outlined above to prevent dye transfer. Please note that we are unable to offer refunds or replacements for items that become stained. We are also not responsible for any cleaning or repair costs resulting from dye transfer to other garments, accessories, or furnishings.
